Legia Smart H-shape compact UVC germicidal lamp series — PL-type twin-tube lamps with G23, 2G7, 2G11 and G10q bases

Product Overview

When a disinfection product must be small — an air purifier tower, a duct-mounted HVAC module, a countertop sterilizer, a disinfection cabinet — a full-length straight tube simply does not fit. The H-shape (PL-type) UVC lamp solves the geometry problem by folding the quartz arc tube into a compact twin-tube “H” that packs the arc length of a much longer straight lamp into a fraction of the space, with all electrical connections on a single plug-in base. The Legia Smart GPL series covers fourteen configurations from 5W to 36W, in overall lengths from 83mm to 410mm, across the five industry-standard base families: G23 and 2G7 (compact), GX23 (mid-power), and 2G11 / G10q (high-power).

This is the lamp format that dominates the air purification industry. A single 36W 2G11 H-lamp delivers 110 μW/cm² at one meter — enough intensity to disinfect the full airflow of a residential air handler or a commercial purifier chamber — from a lamp shorter than 41cm. For OEMs, the plug-in base means the lamp is a user-replaceable consumable with no wiring, no tools, and no service call: a recurring-revenue replacement part built into the product architecture.

Legia Smart GPL lamps are built on the same materials platform as the rest of the UVC range: high-purity quartz with reduced impurity content for maximum 254nm transmission, an internal anti-solarization coating that keeps the output decay curve shallow, and long-life cathodes rated for 9,000 hours of operation. Ozone-free quartz is standard; 185nm ozone-generating versions are available for odor-control and combined UV+ozone applications.

The Compact-Format Advantage

An H-lamp’s folded twin-tube geometry does more than save space — it improves system optics. Because the two parallel limbs radiate in all directions around a compact envelope, reflector designers can capture a far higher fraction of the lamp’s UV output than with a long straight tube, where end losses and shadowing waste photons. In a purifier chamber or in-duct module, that optical efficiency translates directly into higher single-pass log reduction per watt of lamp power.

The single-base plug-in format also simplifies compliance and safety design: the lamp seats in a keyed socket that cannot be mis-inserted, the base shroud shields the pins, and interlocked access panels can cut ballast power the moment the lamp compartment opens. For products sold into consumer and light-commercial channels, these are not conveniences — they are certification requirements.

Core Advantages

  • Five Industry-Standard Bases — Why It Matters: G23, 2G7, GX23, 2G11, and G10q cover virtually every compact germicidal fixture and air purifier on the market. One product line drops into the entire installed base — and into any new OEM design built on standard lamp holders.
  • 5W–36W in Fourteen Configurations — Why It Matters: From a 5W personal air purifier to a 36W commercial HVAC module, the range lets a brand standardize on one lamp family across its whole product line-up, simplifying certification, spare-parts logistics, and service documentation.
  • 110 μW/cm² at 1m (36W) — Why It Matters: Air disinfection is intensity-limited: air moves past the lamp in fractions of a second, so dose comes from intensity, not exposure time. The GPL36’s output class is what makes single-pass air treatment practical in a compact chamber.
  • Plug-In, User-Replaceable — Why It Matters: For OEMs, a socketed lamp converts a service event into a consumable sale and eliminates field-wiring liability. For end users, replacement takes seconds with no tools.
  • 9,000-Hour Rated Life with Coated Quartz — Why It Matters: At 8-12 hours of daily use, 9,000 hours is a two-to-three-year service interval — a genuine ownership-cost advantage over economy lamps that fade early from solarization.
  • Ozone-Free or 185nm Versions — Why It Matters: Ozone-free quartz for occupied-space air purification; ozone-generating quartz where combined UV+ozone oxidation is wanted for odor and VOC control.

Typical Applications

Air Purifiers & Sanitizers: Residential towers, commercial floor units, and medical-grade air disinfection devices — the core market for the 9W–36W models.

HVAC & Duct-Mounted Modules: Compact in-duct UV kits, fan-coil disinfection modules, and mini-split sterilization accessories where installation depth is limited.

UV Disinfection Cabinets: The germicidal light source inside instrument sterilizers, mask sanitizers, and Legia Smart’s own UV & ozone disinfection cabinets, where the compact H format fits behind the reflector panel.

Water & Surface Devices: Countertop water sterilizers, humidifier disinfection modules, and toothbrush/small-object sanitizers built around the 5W–13W compact models.
